<ProductKey> unattend answer file. (First Pc Build) RRS feed

  •   I'm doing my first build and have run into this error in Windows Setup.

    Windows cannot read the <product key> setting from the unattend answer file.

    All answers, that I've read so far,  have dealt with systems that have an earlier version of windows previously installed.  All accept one. This gentleman used MDT to go into the program and replace the key. Is this the only way to repair this problem? If so, any suggestions that would help me navigate these waters, would be greatly appreciated.

     Again, I'm very green so, please be patient with my ignorance, general lack of knowledge and terminology.

  • maybe you want to post more information like what version of MDT, ADK, Windows.

    It also depends on what kind you product key you are using.

  • MDT was designed and mostly tested to install Windows "enterprise" volume license SKU's which don't require a license key per-se.

    Specifically, what version and SKU of MDT are you attempting to install. How are you handling the product Key if not running a Volume Licensing SKU? Do you load up a different Key for each machine?

    If you are not sure what version/SKU you are using, run the command:

    cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv

    and copy the output here.
