NPS on Windows Server 2016 don't create any Log files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have set up an NPS on a Windows 2016 Server.

My Problem is that i don't get any Log File output.

The Accounting Settings are all selected and the Log file Directory is "C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles".

    The Format is ODBC (Legacy).

When I check the auditpol i get the following output.

    System audit policy

    Category/Subcategory    Setting

    Logon/Logoff

Network Policy Server    Success and Failure

Does someone have a solution for this?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi,

Please try following steps to resolve your issue:

    • Enabled event log event via NPS console--right click NPS--Properties--in Gereral tab, Select Rejected authentication requests and Successful authentication requests
    • In Accounting settings--Change Log file properties--ensure settings tab options all selected and change the log directory to other(like D:\log\) from C:\Windows\system32\Logfiles\
    • In event viewer, could you see NPS logs?

    Best regards,

    Travis

  • Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    1. The Rejected authentication requests and Successful authentication requests are selected.

    2. I changed the Log Directory to (C:\NPSLog).

    3. I can see the Events in the Event Viewer.

After changing the Log Directory the logs are written.

    Thanks a lot.
    KR,
    Julian
