Project Server 2007 allows project name to be added as line to timesheet RRS feed

  • Question

  • My resources can add a line whicch is the Project/plan name. The task name appears as "Top Level" & if not spotted, once approved it totally screws PS as it is not an actual task.

Can you disable this function so resources can only add actual task to thier timesheet?

  • hello,

Yeah, I can understand ..Its really a hassle . There is a hack to hide the add line feature in project server 2007

    Step by step:

Project Server 2007 Timesheets for any period of time have probably noticed some drawbacks to using the 'Add Lines' feature, such as difficulty locating the correct task from a potentially long list of projects and associated tasks, as well as the inability to enforce that Team Members only select task names, rather than project names. Use of the 'Add Lines' feature can sometimes cause issues and Team Member confusion... something that we don't want if Team Members are expected to complete timesheets accurately and consistently.

  • 2010 allows to prevent Top-Level Time Reporting, so you should be OK there..

  • If a resource is just added in Project team but not being assigned to the Task, they can add the project Name so either you don't put the resources in team without the tasks or just create a dummy task for the resources.

  • But thats just crazy!

Resources see project names as they probably have old. completed tasks in the plan. I cant remove the resource if they've already entered work on an old task.

Surely PS 2007 must have a fix for this as its purely a project name, not a task.

You wont believe the hassle it causes where everything else queues up after the offending timesheet & in this instance, crashed MS Project!!!

Took nearly two weeks to identify & sort this out. I cant rely on resources, accepters or approvers spotting this everytime. Resources have been informed not to do this but occassionally it happens & muggins here has to sort it out.

  • Thanks Amit, one possibility to try.

Do you know if the same thing can happen in PS 2010?

    Cheers
