[Case Sharing] Unable to protect cloud URL's using windows information protection RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • This post explains how to configure the settings for protecting URLs by WIP.

    Issue Description

Although some URLs are added to the “Protected Domains” and “Cloud Resources” in the WIP settings, they are not protected by WIP.

    Cause

The URLs should be added to the “Cloud Resources” in the WIP settings, and to add a subdomain for a cloud resource, a period (.) should be used instead of an asterisk (*). For example, to add all subdomains within Office.com, use ".office.com" (without the quotation marks). After device sync, the URLs can be protected.

    Resolution

In the WIP policy, add the URLs to the “Cloud Resources”, and replace the asterisk (*) with the period(.) for the subdomains.

    More Information

The “Protected Domains” are used to specify the corporate identities. For example, there are two mailboxes: @microsoft.com and @contoso.com. If the default domain is microsoft.com, the contoso.com domain need to be added in the “Protected Domains” for WIP to protect the @contoso.com mailbox.

The “Cloud Resources” are used to protect the web contents in a protected app. In this case, MS Edge is a protected app, so once all the domains/URLs are added in the “Cloud Resources”, they are protected in MS Edge.
