How to check if being used as a forwarder

    Question

  • Hello,

I am about to demote a domain controller/DNS server. Little worried if this DNS server being as a forwarder in any other domain.

We have few child domains and potentially being used as a forwarder.

Is there a easy way to know if a DNS server is using an IP or DC as a forwarder.

  • Hi Duser,

You can check this is DNS console - RClick on DNS server and navigate to Properties --> Forwarder option >>> there you see if the host IP address has been added to be forwarded. If you dont find any Ip address added then it makes clear sense its not part of any other DNS in the domain.

    Hope this information is helpful..
