Standard Rate field for each project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently we are utilizing the 'Std Rate' as a reference to calculate cost of each resource in a project. We are not updating the ‘Std.Rate’ in Enterprise level through Resource Center screen because rates of the resource may be different for each project.

The problem is, whenever I update the ‘Std. Rate’ field for each enterprise resource through MS Project, the value is automatically reset when re-opening the project file (if connected to PWA). It doesn’t happen when I save the project file locally. We have also looked through Custom Field at MS Project and tried to use one of resource field available there (type of Cost) but we are unable to enter any value even in Resource Sheet view. It seems that the value only entered at the task level from Resource Usage view.

Is there any approach to bring this ‘Std.Rate’ field to project level and allow us to edit it through MS Project without being overridden every time we publish the project? If it is not possible, what would be the best approach to address this? Thank you for the suggestion

  • Hi Gus,

You can edit the resource from the resource center into MS Project Pro. From there, you can double click on the resource name and go to the cost tab. In it, you can define up to 5 rates (from A to E). For each one of the 5, you can define time intervals.

Then in MS Project, you can insert the rate coste table column and choose which one of the 5 rates. It will automatically update the costs.

You could use this method, unless you have more than 5 concurrent projects per resources.

Otherwise, we developed a .NET application for managing multiple rates per resources and activities.

    Hope this helps,
