Need some clarity with basic TI and tabular sources RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having trouble with a basic financial scorecard (new to TI) so reduced scorecard down to simple test case and questioning the result.

Created a Sharepoint list that has columns Date,Spend,Forecast. Data in the list consists of 6 records, 1 record per month.

Created Data Connection to SP list and configured the time dimension off the Data field. Selected Year, Qtr and Month as levels.

Created KPI with two Actuals - Spend and SpendPrev with has Timefilter= month-1

Placed KPI In a scorecard on x axis and Month dim on Y and updated. The SpendPrev value for each month doesn't reflect the previous month spend value.

Can someone help me understand whats happening.

  • You should be seeing the data for last month which would be for Sept 2010.  You should see this value displayed if you preview the TI filter.  Not sure which version of the software you are using, 2007 or 2010.  When you place the months on the axis though what you are most likely seeing now is simply the value for each month in both columns.  Does that sounds about right?

The TI filters are going to be aligned with the system date/time of the server you are running the software on.

  • I set this up to revisit the problem. 7 records in a Sharepoint List.

     ReportingDate  Spend
    7/12/2010  10
    7/20/2010  20
    8/15/2010 30
    9/15/2010 40
    10/15/2010 50
    11/15/2010 60
    12/13/2010 70

TI set to ReportingDate, Configured with Year,Quarter,Month,Day
    Created: SpendLastMonth  Spend w/TI = month-1
      SpendQTD  Spend w/TI = QuarterToDate
      SpendYTD  Spend w/TI = YearToDate
KPI in Columns: Spend, SpendLastMonth,SpendQTD,SpendYTD.   Row set to months
    RESULTS

    ReportingDate Spend SpendLastMonth SpendQTD SpendYTD
    2010-07   30  70    Blank  30
    2010-08   30  70    Blank  30
    2010-09   40  40    Blank  40
    2010-10   50  90    50   50
    2010-11   60  100    Blank  Blank
    201012   70  110    Blank  Blank

Checked system date/time and in sync.

  • The results are going to be odd because you are placing the months on rows.  I would expect some rather odd results.  The TI setup is to filter the content and as far as I know should not be used in conjunction with dates on the rows or columns.  You can use these to filter the measure results in the KPIs or to utilize in a background filter, but you are trying to use them as a Shell dimension and that is not the intended purpose.
