Exchange 2007 Mailbox without Active Directory User RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 and saw something that confused me.  We have a mailbox within my recipient configuration, but the "User logon name" found within the account tab of the mailbox properties isn't listed in the "Active Directory Users and Computers".  We have been asked to change the password for this account, but since it is not in AD, I can't update the password.  This is not a disconnected mailbox, so I am not sure why an AD account isn't visible.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

First run this command to know the exact location of the mailbox in AD:

    get-mailbox primaryEmailAddress |FL UserPrincipalName,OrganizationalUnit

Replace "primaryEmailAddress " with the primary smtp address of your target mailbox.

Now goto this OU location and try to find user.

IF its not there then it must have been deleted from AD mistakenly, in which case the mailbox should be shown in Disconnected mailboxes list in EMC. If AD user is not there, and you still cannot see the mailbox in Disconnected mailbox list then run this command in EMS:

    Get-MailboxDatabase | Clean-MailboxDatabase

and see if mailbox is in Disconnected mailbox list in EMC.

  • Hi,

Additionally, did you check the user by using ADSI Edit tool?

If not there, that should be deleted. You can try the Laeeq's suggestions to check it. If it's Disconnected mailbox, please try to create a same AD account and reconnect it to the Disconnected mailbox.

    Thanks

    Allen
