Vista Taskbar is changing itself RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having a problem with the Vista Taskbar on my Dell Latitude 830 Laptop running Vista Ultimate.....

Using the Aero interface....I have the taskbar 'locked' to keep the Quick Launch, middle section, and System Tray widths fixed and unmovable.  However, it seems as if 1 out of every 3 restarts produces a taskbar that has seemingly unlocked itself, changed the width of the middle section to be extremely narrow (thus showing very small slivers of programs that are running), and then relocking itself.

It took me a little while to figure out what was actually happening, but when this happens, my Quick Launch icons also reorder themselves in alphabetical order according to the name of their shortcut, instead of the way I placed them.  Now, I found a blog on the Internet that said this is normal behavior and I need to rename them for the desired order.  However, I disagree with that blog because I remember it keeping my order on prior restarts, just like XP.

Any ideas as to what may be causing these problems?
