Workflow functionality in Sharepoint in the Cloud vs Sharepoint On Premise RRS feed

  • Question

  • In terms of workflow functionality, does Sharepoint in the cloud support the same workflow functionality as Sharepoint on premise?  If not what are the differences?

Answers

  • With On-Premises, it's possible to write server side code, and use that in a workflow as a custom action. In Office 365, server side code isn't allowed - it'd require hosting the code outside Office 365, in Azure as a custom web service. Also complex business functionality is tough to achieve in sharepoint online workflow.

  • Hi

    For SharePoint 2013 On-premise, we can :

    1. Comlete control of our environment and data
    2. Supports heavy customization
    3. Keep sensitive information in-house
    4. Easier integration into line of business systems
    5. Full development options for developers

    For SharePoint Online workflow:

    1. Workflow 2010 & 2013 are available with Standard and Enterprise Editions without having to install
    2. If using Windows Azure workflow functionality is the same as 2013
    3. Cannot create custom Visual Studio workflows
