Incoming email configuration settings in SharePoint 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am trying to configure incoming emails to be stored in a SharePoint 2007 Document Library/any List  for a  specific person(email1@company.com). I mean if anyone send mail to 'email1@company.com' this email, all the mails should be automatically saved into the SharePoint Doc Library list.

I am using SMTP Server. This setting i am trying into one of my sharepoint Development server.

Please let me know if anyone knows all the steps to be configure.

    Appreciate Your Help.

    Thanks, Syam

  • Install SMTP Server and configure it to relay mail

    a. Open the IIS MMC snapin

    b. Right click on Properties of Default SMTP Virtual Server

    c. Click the Access Tab, Relay. Add the IP address of the SharePoint server to the computers that can relay through this virtual server.

    d. Click the Delivery tab, Advanced. For Masquerade Domain enter the netbios name of your web server, for Smart Host enter the netbios name of your server that you are using.

    2. Configure the incoming e-mail settings in WSS/MOSS

    a. Open the SharePoint Central Administration and navigate to the Operations tab

    b. Underneath the Topologies and  Services categories - you will find a link to Incoming e-mail settings

    c. Enable incoming e-mail and use the advanced settings mode.

    d. Leave the Directory Management Services defaults as they are (No)

    e. Fill in the e-mail server display address

    f. For the drop folder put c:\inetpub\mailroot\drop - if you are not using the default settings you will need to change this

    3. Configure the e-mail settings for a specific list/library.

    a. Click on list settings for a specif list/library

    b. Under Communication settings, click Email settings

    c. Check the Enable this list to receive e-mails.

    d. Fill in an e-mail address for the list/library

  • Hi Kondala,

Thank you very much for reply.

In the development virtual server environment everything perfectly working when i send mail (from virtual server Outlook Express) to e-mail for a specific list/library.

In the same virtual serve now i am trying this setting for my company email (for ex: syam@mycompany.com). this email i have configured for list or library. for that i am following your  first section instructions. what i mean is if i send mail from my desktop outlook express to syam@mycompany.com. the mail should store into the virtual server sharepoint list/library.

Add the IP address of the SharePoint server to the computers that can relay through this virtual server.     --> which IP address you want me add here , like smtp server IP address?

For Masquerade Domain enter the netbios name of your web server, for Smart Host enter the netbios name of your server that you are using.  --> can you provide me the details which server netbios name i have to give

Appreciate your help. let me know any clarification you requires from me.

    Thanks,

    Syam
