IE 10 install failure on Win 7 SP1 x64 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unable to install IE 10, I get this error:

"Internet Explorer did not finish installing"

I checked the troubleshooter, here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2820688, and nothing on that article helped. I am using the x64 installer, I don't have any other pending Windows Updates, I have all of the pre-reqs installed, I'm on the latest video drivers from ATI, and I tried rebooting my computer.

Appendix A here suggests a few additional items that didn't help: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822323.aspx

The first error I see in my IE10_main.log is this:

    00:00.015: ERROR:   === FindResource (7006,"IE10-neutral.Extracted.cab") failed with 0x716

  • Hi,

Have you tried to remove IE10 and reinstall it?

    Please note the following:

If you try to reinstall Internet Explorer 10 after you recently uninstalled the program, the installation process may not be successful. This issue may occur because the system has not finished removing temporary setup files that are required for the initial installation of the program. If this issue occurs, we recommend that you wait 20 minutes before you try to reinstall Internet Explorer 10.

  • I haven't installed IE 10 on this box before, so there is nothing to unininstall (no Beta or RTM IE present).

My Windows Updates are current and don't have any errors. I have all of the IE 10 pre-reqs installed, and am not receiving any error messages on install about updates.

There is another log file that you would look at for problems in that step.  As a guess it looks like you should be trying to stop manually things that won't allow themselves to be stopped automatically.   Also, I suggest using ProcMon to supplement the diagnostics that you are getting.   Doing that helps show how the various messages relate, as well as registry and file accesses which lead up to them.

    Good luck

  • You can try run the setup program in the command prompt (cmd.exe)  "IE10-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe /update-no".

    Then update IE10.

  • Still no luck, none of the above suggestions worked. IE 10 still won't install.

  • none of the above suggestions worked.

Since they were mostly suggestions about diagnostics, they wouldn't.  If you need help interpreting them you will have to be more forthcoming about what you are doing and seeing.

  • I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get it to install?

  • No, I didn't get it fixed. I tried removing and re-installing some Windows updates but the IE install still won't finish.
