Accessing SQL Server Database using Microsoft Data Management Gateway RRS feed

  • Question

  • We created a Gateway in the Power Bi Admin Page to use for Microsoft Data Management Gateway on the Database server, it was created successfully.

Each time we try to connect to the Data Via Power Query using the Organizational account this is the error message I got

    The Credentials provided are invalid

    You are already signed in.

Please how do I resolve this

  • Hi Adekunle,

Can you please share more details on your operation? How did you setup the gateway and how did you connect to the Data? Could be even better you may provide some screenshots.

    Thanks

  • After turning on connection trace I can see that its sending oData requests to the wrong end point:

    as opposed to

    Hi,

Can you please logon to admin portal (https://admin.powerbi.com/) to check the data source name? Is it ReportingServer or ActualNameReportingServer?

  • Hi Jian

I'm getting exactly the same issue and it's extremely frustrating.

    Background Setup

    - Using Office365 / 2013 locally

    - PowerBI

    - Also upgraded from IE 9 to IE 11 (seen a forum post that suggested this, made no difference at all!)

    - Power Query 2.16.3785.242 (Tried 2.16.3822.242 but getting a 'not instance of object' error on any oData connection to PowerBI gateway on the later version so rolled back again)

    - The gateway relay service is setup and connected

    Issue Description

I've spend the past week trying to develop a number of pivot tables for use online via office365. Sometimes it works fine, I refresh a pivot table or connect to the oData source and it's fine - connects and gets data. However about 5 times a day on average it will all of a sudden popup with the 'Access an OData feed' green/white window with the OData URL in the title and state 'The credentials provided are invalid'. I go through several cycles of Signing In/Out to PowerBI (in Excel) and several cycles of the Excel Account login... all verify my credentials first time.

However, when I then go to refresh the pivot or connect to OData I get the same annoying popup. When I click 'Sign in a a different user' on the green/white OData popup it says 'You are currently not signed in. Please sign in' - I then click 'Sign in' and nothing happens. I either try an obscene amount of login/logout Excel or restart Excel/PC but nothing seems to make a difference. Each time, all of a sudden the 'Sign in' box decides to present a popup to login. When this pops up I know it'll start working again after providing my credentials in this certain screen that rarely shows itself. On one occasions, I had to take a breather and went for a walk to calm down... upon my return it started working some hours later.

It opens up some real benefits to our business but I cannot have users logging these issues when this is in production and seriously considering pulling the plug until it's resolved.

I couldn't find another thread with this exact same issue so willing to get to the bottom of this for others so they do not need to suffer in the same scenario.

... and PowerBI refresh scheduling doesn't work at all via the PowerBI Online Tool - not sure if its related.

    Thanks

    Tim

  • Still an issue today... found a website that describes a bug in the same screen with credentials but the solution didn't work. My issues refers to Organisational Account.

    http://whitepages.unlimitedviz.com/2013/09/power-bi-working-with-the-data-management-gateway/

Refreshing browser cache and restarting didn't work.

After turning on connection trace I can see that its sending oData requests to the wrong end point:

    as opposed to

It's never been called ReportingServer and I've never tried to connect to an oData source with this name. I cleared cache and still get the same issue. In the trace it states "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found" . Trying a new oData connection shows the same attempt to /ReportingServer even if I just type a nonsense URL in the text box.

Any update on this from your side?
