How many VIP's are supported on external UAG interfave RRS feed

  • Question

  • How many Virtual IP addresses can we assign on the external interface of UAG.

I ask this because i have assigned 3 Virtual IP addresses using Network Load Balancing option from the Admin menu.

But only the trunk using the first VIP works. Rest of the trunks (using the other two VIP) show connectivity issues or don't work at all. In the Network Load balancing manager also i only see the first VIP as the clustered IP. Other two don't appear in NLB Manager.

  • HI,

NLB supports up to 32 VIPs, up to 8 is good from a performance point of view - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2010/07/20/10040467.aspx.

UAG will work with 3 VIPs, I did before with 8. Problem can be in the network - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006558. Vmware or Cisco switches alsways need special treatment.

All the production environments I did are using hardware load balancers and not NLB.
