Explorer: easy way to open new window? RRS feed

  • Question

  • With explorer (file system explorer, NOT ie), is there an easy way to get a new window? My goal is to have two explorer windows side by side. The only way I've found to do this is to right-click the taskbar icon, and then select "Windows Explorer". Alternatively I know ctrl-n works, but I want a single-click solution. Is there any mod or reg hack that will add a button to explorer to allow a new window to quickly and easily opened? Any other solutions?

  • Press Win+E combine key to launch Windows Explorer.

Also, you can add a Quick Launch toolbar as a workaround. To do so, you can refer to this knowledge base (KB) article: Guided Help: Enable the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7.

Once the Quick Launch Toolbar is added, drag Computer icon from the Start menu to the bar and it will be pinned.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Linda
