Time writing without changing dates for the task RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

By default project updates the tasks (actual) start date when the first actuals come in (as a consequence of reporting time in the timesheet). Consquence of that, is that the finish date will be updated as well.

    I have the following scenario:

In January a resource is supposed to work 20 hours on a task, when in January does not matter as long as it does not become February.

So I make a task: Start date Jan 1, Duration 20 days, Work 20 hrs.

What else do I need to do?

    - different task types  - Fixed Duration does not matter

    - Finish constraint  - does not work

    - Manually scheduled task - works but is not what I want, because if the task is done on lets say Jan 15th, the successor task can already start

    Any ideas?

  • Hi Sander,

The issue is that project will always try and reschedule the remaining work based upon the existing assignment units and it will never change those.  so, if you start work on a task late, then given the existing assignment units, the task will finish late.  Conversely, if you start work early, or work at a rate greater than you expected, the task will finish early.  It will be a job for the PM to reschedule these assignments.
