missing "From" address on NDRs and OOFs RRS feed

  • Question

  • My company has recently implemented a Barracuda SPAM & Virus firewall.  We are having a few issues due to the fact that system generated messages from Exchange are not supplying a From address.  I've tried to correct this by providing an external postmaster address, but the external postmaster address does not seem to be getting used.

I added the external postmaster address (noreply@mydomain.com) using EMC, and verified it by running Get-TransportConfig in the management shell and checking the ExternalPostmasterAddress value.  It appears to be set up correctly.  I've tried restarting the server, but that didn't help either.

I'm including below a sample of the message source (as viewed in the Barracuda device's message log) for a message sent by an actual user that does have the from address and a server generated response that is missing the from address.  The key differences I notice are (1) the problem seems to be that the server generated reply does not have a value for X-Barracuda-Envelope-From and (2) the server generated reply is received with Microsoft SMTP Server whereas the user reply is received with mapi.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Craig
