Server 2008 R2 Raid 1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to dealing with raid's but I am setting up a server at my home for an FTP site. Installed and running Server 2008 R2 and have the OS set on raid 1.  I have an external storage enclosure and will be adding drives to this as I go along. I have set up 2 drives for storage on raid 1 but unsure how to add drives to the raid and expand the storage. I would assume that once the drives have been added I just go into Server Manager and extend the current drive to the newly installed drives. But how do I go about adding them to the current raid with the currently installed drives that are set for storage?

  • I’d first consult the motherboard/RAID_Card manufacturer to make sure it’s possible to add new disks to existing RAID1 configuration. Personally, I’d backup the OS first (if you don’t want to reinstall Windows), break the existing RAID1 array and rebuild RAID1 with 4 disk to save the trouble.
