  • A lot of computer experts claim cleaning the registry is unnecessary and could lead to a corrupted and unreadable registry.  The is no program or feature in Windows XP and Microsoft's Fixit is only for the specific task it is created for.

However, I have been using TweakNow for many years and still using in on Windows 7.  It is FREE.  http://www.tweaknow.com/

  • The best solution for this is CCleaner from Piriform: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. It protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure. Easy to use and a small, fast download.

Microsoft does not recommend using Registry cleaners as they can prove to be a potential damage to your operating system. However, still if you are in search of registry cleaner, make sure you are using the one which is considered safe and reliable to perform Windows registry cleanup. I would recommend using any of the following two:

    1:- Registry Recycler

    http://www.registryrecycler.com/

    2:- CCleaner

    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

RR Creates Back of your existing registry settings automatically, CCleaner prompts for it. Make sure you click YEs for registry backup when using CCleaner. Otherwise, you would not have chance to reverse the changes being done by the software.
