Network Error- Windows cannot access \\server.LAN.com\MySharedFolder Error code: 0x80004005 - Unspecified error

    Question

  • Symptom:

The URL of a shared folder on the LAN,  copied into Windows Explorer address bar produces the Network Error in the above title.

Network Error: WIndows cannot access \\server.LAN.com\MySharedFolder   Error Code: 0x8004005 - Unspecified error.

But from a Dos terminal, Windows Explorer can open the same location just fine.  From DOS terminal:

    start \\server.LAN.com\MySharedFolder

Also opening the same location from a Favorite link in Windows Explorer works just fine and the folder is opened.

I collected the NetMon log between 10.232.81.12(client) and  10.232.81.85(server.)

Can I please get a network expert's opinion on this issue. My apologies for the longish log below.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Uninstalling "Microsoft Network Client" and then re-installing it fixed the issue.

Note, just unchecking the above will stop network access but it does not fix the issue! You need to uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot in this exact order.

Thanks to everybody who read this post. I hope this helps someone with the same problem.

  • So how do you do this in Windows 10?  I'm getting this error in the Network troubleshooter. I can't post images yet.
