  • Question

  • Have a Active Directoy / Exchange question. Wasn't sure where to post it so I'll start here...

When a user's last name changes and our Help Desk updates this info in the AD user account, when looking at the user account in ADSI Edit, I still see the old name for the field legacyExchangeDN. Are we not updating a field, or is this normal? Or what field do we need to update in the user account for this to also update the legacyExchangeDN field? Exchange 2003, AD 2008.

    Thanks.

  • No, there isn't. Just don't change the legacyExchangeDN. Better yet, stop using real names in the mailNickname (alias) when you create new users and mailboxes so when names change (and they do!) it isn't something that looks like it needs to be changed (which it doesn't). Or maybe just tell the helpdesk to think of the legacyExchangeDN the same way they think of the account SID or the objectGUID. :-)

  • There is really no reason to change that. I wouldn't.

  • Don't mess with it. Yes when previous users send her an email the nickname cache will still populate the old lastname until they get rid of the cache, but that alone wouldn't justify updating the legacyexchangedn, leave it as it.

  • Don't change the legacyExchangeDN value. There are consequences if you do. Mailbox folder permissions, Non-Delivery Reports, calendar problems, delegate problems, etc. Really, leave it alone.

  • Well, the only reason why I am wondering about it is because we have third party fax application that references legacyExchangeDN as one it's primary routing fields for incoming faxes. So our Help Desk gets confused when they see the old name and they change it in the fax app to reflect their new name, and then things don't work. But of course, after the fax app sync's with AD, it switches it back to the correct old name and we're fine. But I was mainly wondering if there was a field in the user's AD account that can be updated and it would refresh the user's legacyExchangeDN field when I view their account in ADSI edit.
