LTO Hardware Compression followed by Hardware Encryption to tape. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Playing with the beta, it's a little hard to tell it this is implemented yet.

Can you set DPM 2012 to use LTO hardware compression followed by LTO hardware encryption to tape?

With DPM 2010, you can either set software encryption, or hardware compression, the option to do both in hardware is not available. This makes sense, as there is no point trying to compress the software encrypted stream. But the newer LTO drives can to the compression first then the encryption in the hardware, but DPM has to work in an encryption key exchange.

Obviously getting the hardware to do the work is the best of both worlds, you are able to compress the raw stream and them apply the encryption.

  • Hi,

we dont support the hardware encryption as of now.  the supoort terms for DPM 2012 are almost same as DPM 2010.

We will work towards adding this may be in future releases. Thank you for the feedback.
