WMR - Sharing origin between 2 WMR setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

So we're developing this multiplayer warehouse-scale experience using Windows Mixed Reality and the Unity Engine. I think we've got the basics on how to setup our game in order to provide the best large scale experience for the players but there is still something we cannot figure out.

The world origin is determined by the headset position when the "Center" button is clicked during the calibration step. Then it seems a map is created when a user walk around its space, based on feature points captured by the front cameras.

What we are trying to do is just share this "Center" position and thus, the world origin between all our headsets. The straightforward way to do it is to calibrate all headsets at the exact same position, but it looks like it's error prone and on large scale even a small rotation could lead to a large displacement.

So we discovered the Spatial Data Package Manager, it looks like it can share maps, share anchors (which we added in our project) but it doesn't share the origin ? Are we missing something here ?

If a map can be shared along with anchors data, why an origin is not shared then ?

TLDR; We're trying to share the origin of the system, determined during the standing calibration step, but we don't know the correct way to do it. Do we need to calibrate all the headsets at the exact same position ? Can we just do it on one headset and share the result with the others ?

    Thanks for reading,

    Best,

    Alexis.

Since the limited resource in forum, it is recommended to have this asked in Unity Engine.
