Making an XP partition with no data loss? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows 7 build 7100 on my drive with no original partitions. I want to create a partition for XP without losing any data on my original drive. I first made a backup for restore and put it on a separate external drive. I made the repair disk and tried to boot from it with the intention of reformatting the hard drives and then restoring all the original data to one of the partitions. I selected an option in the boot menu that says "reformat hard drives" but it did not let me, and just restored the whole drive including the fact that there was no partition. So now i'm back where I started. Any ideas?

  • Hi,

Do not need to reinstall. You can try to Shrink the system volume first. Please refer the following website.

    Shrink Partition
