  • Question

  • I have 2 SharePoint 2007 SP3 servers in a farm. Both have the diagnostic logging set to category of all, least critical to event log - error and lease critical to trace logs of unexpected.

I know there are some issues on the farm - because that's why I am looking for the logs.

I am trying to get the windows sharepoint services search started on one of the machines, and trying to get the indexer to run on the second of the machines.

So far, neither are working and the only error that sharepoint reports is "Unknown error".

I presume that if I had log files, I would find useful info there.

    Has anyone seen this before?

I have checked permissions on the folders where the logs were being written - and now are not being written - and the farm account has full permissions.

  • Hi,

Restart windows sharepoint tracing services to check if it generates the log files for you.

    Thanks, Rahul Rashu

  • Thanks - I restarted tracing, several times, and still don't get logs

  • When I got into work this morning, the logs were being generated, so it appears that some sort of delay between restarting the services and the logging must have gone on. On to track down new problems.

    Thank  you very much!
