Asked by:
Zboard driver stops working after SP1 RC install

Question
-
After installing Windows 7 SP1 RC (x64 version) the zboard driver crashes every time it starts with "Ideazon Z engine has stopped working" message. I have yet to try uninstalling SP1 to see if that fixes the problem, but maybe there is another workaround?
Thanks
Dave

Dave, can you please attach the application event logs, or look for the windows error reporting event and application error event associated with this crash.
If you could also please share the hardware PNPID of the device, that would be great.
If you could please share the the vendor information (where you got the hardware/software from), pointers to install packages on the web, and version numbers of the software you have installed, this will go a long way to get to the root cause of this issue.
Thanks

The vendor information is located here:
http://shop.steelseries.com/us/index.php/keyboards-us/steelseries-zboard.htmlThe latest driver from http://steelseries.com/support/downloads (zboard usb 2.5.0.29 win7 64 bit) is installed
The hardware ID is HID\VID_1038&PID_0100&REV_1098&MI_00

same problem here. hmm now one month and nothing works.any news ?Sunday, January 16, 2011 6:21 PM

Is your issue also with ZBoard?
If so, the update to fix this will have to come from them.
Part of the code that Zboard uses makes assumptions on the code layout of some OS binaries, and that layout can and will change as the binaries are recompiled.

Hi all, I have found this thread after trying to install ZEngine on my new Windows 7 SP1, I have contacted Steel Series support and this is what they told me:
We're aware of issues with Win 7 SP1 RTM causing issues with ZEngine - crashes and possible system crashes.
We are currently working with Microsoft on resolving the issue before the public release of Service Pack 1. Unfortunately it is a high-level developmental issue and there is not a fix at this time.
I apologize for any inconvenience and would recommend reverting back from SP1 RTM if you plan to use any ZEngine device
