Set Location in Regional Settings by GPO RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

When I create a new Windows 7 Regional Setting by Group Policy User CSE it's not possible to add a location.
This feature is grey and not possible to change...

    Any ideas why...?

    Thanks in advance for help

  • This question may be more comfortable in GPO server forum. Add information on operating system and configuration.

For latest server operating system read http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754496.aspx

  • As described, It's a Windows 7 GPO... so I guess that this forum will be the right one.

  • Hi,

Would you please let us know more details about the issue. How did you set the Group Policy and what feature is grey?

It is also appreciated that if you can provide us screenshots about the issue.

  • That is not the answer to his question, Jeremy.

User Configuration | Preferences | Control Panel Settings | Regional Options |

Regional Options Tab - Location (This is greyed out). Why is this greyed out? Why can we not change this?

Here is a screenshot of the "issue"

This issue is not limited to Windows 7, it's a general Group policy that in his case is applied to windows 7, in my case I'm applying it to a Windows Server 2012 R2

As an alternative what you could do is create a group policy that changes the registry.

    Computer\HCU\Control Panel\International

    Lookup sCountry

Below is a screenshot of what you can see:

    http://i.gyazo.com/a404d075c7bd3bc67cb9accd27cd6a8d.png

Now if you create a user policy

drill down to User Configuration àPreferences à Windows Settings à Registry

    Add new Registry Item:

    Hive : HKEY_CURRENT_USER

    Key Path: Control Panel\International

Then only change the Value data to your own country code (in my case Netherlands is 31)

You should see something like this:

    http://i.gyazo.com/bef21a88ff59c6d2a8dafe42b6b2176e.png

The full list of country codes can be found here: http://countrycode.org/ look in the Country Code column

Exception to that list is Canada which is 2, by default it’s set to 1 which is the US

Make sure to use item level targeting or something else to have these settigns applied only to the servers/clients/users that you intend to change.

    Hope this helps.
