Is there a way to add a task to a deployment task sequence to deploy utilities/software that first checks the computer model before it runs in the same way the driver selection profiles work?
For instance, we would like to install the Intel Proset/Wireless Utility on specific model laptops that have compatible Intel wireless NICs or we may want to install certain HP software utilities on HP desktops or laptops ect. without having to
make a unique deployment task sequence for those systems.
Yup, two pretty easy ways to do it, both involving WMI queries as the condition on the Task itself. If you wanted to list all the models, just group them into an "Any" condition:
Select * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem Where Model like "%Precision WorkStation T7500%"
You can also do a WMI query for a PNPEntity if you have a specific piece of hardware you want to install drivers for, but it isn't specific to a model. This is an example I use for installing Dell Mobile Broadband for an EVDO card:
SELECT * FROM Win32_PNPEntity WHERE DeviceID LIKE "%USB\\VID_413C&PID_8194&MI_00%"
