Windows Updates Gone Wrong

    General discussion

  • Dear all,

not sure if this is the right forum but running some windows servers in our environment, version 2008 r2 and some of them are having all sorts of issues with updates.  I first noticed it when on most i couldn't install internet explorer 10 despite following the various guidelines and then attempting various fixes including SFC /scannow, checking the disk for errors, the update readiness tool etc with no success.  I have a copy of the CBS and CheckSUR log files in case anyone wants to have a look.

    A sample of the CheckSUR:

    hecking Windows Servicing Packages

    Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs
    (f)    CBS MUM Corrupt    0x00000000    servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum        Expected file name Microsoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~neutral~~10.2.9200.16437.mum does not match the actual file name
    (f)    CBS MUM Corrupt    0x00000000    servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum        Expected file name Microsoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~neutral~~10.2.9200.16437.mum does not match the actual file name

There also seem to be some packages that are corrupt.  See a sample from CBS.log:

2013-10-09 00:15:19, Info                  CBS    Failed to get session package state for package: Package_3_for_KB2882822~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~ [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

Not sure what the best way to handle this is, some recommendations in forums included removing the updates and reinstalling them but this seems to be more of a desperate approach.  Is there anything else you would recommend?
