Intermittent workflow failures RRS feed

  • Hi,

    We have 1 x MIM Sync and 1 x MIM Portal/Service virtual machines (build: 4.3.2266.0).

    We import employee data from an HR system, MIM then creates the users in AD. Exchange is responsible for generating the email address. The email address is then exported to the MIM Portal.

    We have an MPR that monitors the 'Email' attribute in the MIM Portal for changes. If changes occur (for example the value is initially blank for a new user and when Exchange creates the mail address, this attribute is populated), then MIM sends out a notification to the HR team, informing them of the change in the email address.

    We have found that MIM however is inconsistent with this email. For example, we created 4 users recently in HR system, and MIM only sent out 3 email notifications. Last week, 6 users were created and only 1 notification was sent. All users enter the Set that is meant to trigger things off. Why does it work for some and not for others?

    We have other email notification MPRs, that all work fine.

    The inconsistency makes us believe this may be a MIM bug?

    Is the MIM Set correction SQL Agent Jobs running?

    Please check this, as this could be one cause for the problem.

    Also check the Request Log for any PostProcessingErrors.

    Request logs, Event Logs all clean and without error. SQL Agent Jobs running.

    It works for 4 out of 5 users, then 1 out of 6 users, then 3 out of 4.

    MIM always seems to miss 1 or more users that transition into a Set, and dont send notifications for those users.

    I now have updated MIM to the latest build 4.4.1459.0 - and the problem still exists.

    This sounds like a MIM bug which we will have to log with MS Support.

  • If you check the sets now, are the users that did not receive the email included in them?

    Are you sure that the emails are not actuelly sent from MIM? Could it be that they are filtered as spam?

  • The users are in the correct Set.

    The emails are sent to the same mailbox, using the same template.

    So if it was marked as Spam, none would be received...

    We're gonna log it with MS - as the basic building block of "transition into Set, fire workflow" is just not working for 1 out of X attempts.
