Hi tn_1970,
From your description, your SharePoint version seems to be SharePoint 2010.
If so, this is a known issue that when using a Task/Project Task list in the gantt view, if you use People Picker control and choose a user name with a comma in the “assigned to” field, it will shows “The user does not exist or is not unique” as is displayed in the picture you provided. We have taken efforts on this. Hope this issue can be resolved in the next release of the product.
For a workaround, you may consider modifying the user name without comma in it.
Thanks for your understanding.

Can we get an update? This looks like it is still an issue with the latest release of SharePoint 2013 Foundation.Friday, March 1, 2013 3:20 AM

And this is not just an Gantt issue anymore. Now that all datasheet / quick edit views are done through javascript, this is a major problem anywhere the assigned to column appears.Friday, March 1, 2013 3:21 AM
