IE 11 Site List Manager .V2 Format XML file Not Compatible RRS feed

  • Question

  • We were using the Site List Manager for a few months and it was working OK.  Now that the admin workstation is Windows 10, we downloaded the new Windows 10 version, bulk added the sites from the xml file and then resaved the XML file.

The new format does not work, even for Windows 10 systems.  We had to restore a backup copy of the old v1 XML file and use the old site list manager to keep the original XML formatting.

What do we have to change on the workstations to make the new xml format recognized and will it IE 11 on Windows 7 and 8.1 systems recognize this new format?

    No.

[we are using EMIE schema v1 for Win7/8.1/10, in a single sitelist.xml file, and it's working fine. I'm in no hurry to assess EM schema v2 ;]

Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]

  • Not even Windows 10 clients were successfully using the new XML file.

If it won't work for Windows 7 or 8.1, we would have to maintain two sitelist files.

  • We are unable to get it to work.  Nobody posted any suggestion other than to go back to the old version.

So, we gave up on it.

Not sure what the purpose of the new version is if it doesn't work.

  • deploywindows.info has a doc about it called updates-to-enterprise-mode-for-ie-11

    also check TechNet dn894101.aspx

There is also a new easier to read and manage XML schema available, but please note that this only works on IE11 and Edge in Windows 10 from Fall update (Upgrade to Windows 10 , version 1511, 10586). It will come in early 2016 to IE11 on Windows 7 and 8.1, so please do not try to use the new XML version on Windows 7/8.1 devices today.

With these updates and Windows 10 Fall update Microsoft sees the following options regarding what browser to choose
•Use Microsoft Edge as your primary browser
•Use Microsoft Edge as your primary browser and use Enterprise Mode to open sites in IE11 that use IE proprietary technologies
•Use Microsoft Edge as your primary browser and open all intranet sites in IE11
•Use IE11 as your primary browser and use Enterprise Mode to open sites in Microsoft Edge that use modern web technologies
•Use IE11 as your primary browser

Are the fixes available for the new xml version now?  Is there a way to make one site list work now between Windows 10 1511, Windows 10 10240, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1?

We have a mixed environment and we would like the 1511 systems with Edge installed to automatically redirect to IE 11 even if the users mistakenly attempt to open our IE-dependent sites requiring Enterprise Mode compatibility settings in Edge and we don't want to have to maintain different site lists in different format versions for each operating system.
