Upgrade from DPM 2010 to DPM 2012 SP1 not supported?

Question

Hi all,
Last week I made an attempt to upgrade from DPM 2010 (with KB2615782 installed) to DPM 2012 SP1, but was met by the following error during the setup: "System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 DPM cannot be installed on the same computer as DPM 2006 or DPM 2007 or DPM 2010. Install System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 DPM on a different computer and migrate your settings using the upgrade tool".
Is there really an upgrade tool for upgrading to DPM 2012 SP1? I've never heard of this so far.I solved it by first upgrading to DPM 2012 (without SP1), then installing QFE3 and at last installing DPM 2012 SP1 - then it worked. So my question is:
Is this the only supported way of upgrading from DPM 2010 to 2012 with SP1? It's a lot of steps before getting there, and it feels strange to me that MS doesn't support an in-place upgrade.

Hi Amir
The steps above is the correct way to upgrade to SP1, dont think there is a direct path.

OK thank you, then I know this is probably the only way of upgrading so far.

Hi,
yes, unfortunately the only way to upgrade from DPM 2010 to DPM 2012 R2 is by this steps:
1. update DPM 2010 to DPM 2012
2. Update DPM 2012 to DPM 2012 SP1
3. Update DPM 2012 SP1 to DPM 2012 R2
Ciao,
Alessandro
