  • Hi Krisna

The only difference between antispam agents between mailbox server and edge server in 2013 is connection filtering agent will be present only in edge server since the connection can be decided and filtered at the perimeter level itself.

Summary : We will not have connection filter agent in mailbox server in 2013 after sp1.

And for the additional spam filtering FOPE is offering best solution so far

apart from FOPE  For cloud level filtering Messsage labs does the best . There are so may even barracuda does good job.

Apart from that if you are looking for inhouse additional spam filtering setup integrated with exchange there are also so many

Recently i tested Spam Fighter which integrates with exchange and does a good job. You can see the product review here

  • Hello,

In addition to the previous post, the main difference between Edge and Hub Transport is basically the spot, location where they are deployed:

    1. Edge role is deployed in DMZ (separate workgroup or Active Directory Forest). This is more safe in terms of Exchange organization's security.
    2. Hub Transport (Mailbox role) is placed in internal Active Directory.

If you are looking a for good Antispam solution you can also look at Exchange Online Protection: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj723137%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx.

    Hope it helps,
