Windows 7, 32 bit app, 64 bit machine/OS, DPInst.exe RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm working on installation of a 32 bit app that runs under Windows 7 (64 bits).  The app supports hardware and the hardware has drivers.  The drivers must be 32 bit drivers.  I've been installing these manually for awhile now and all is good.  DPInst wants me to use the 64 bit version (of DPInst)  in the target (i.e. 64 bit) environment.  My question is, does the 64 bit DPInst also install 32 bit drivers?

    Thanks.

  • Drivers on a 64-bit system have to be 64-bit.  32-bit drivers will not work.

  • Duh.  Too long at the PC.  Short version is I was looking in a System32 directory and forgetting what that meant on a 64 bit machine.  Thanks for not throwing anything.
