After March 2019 client patches Connect to Outlook functionality fails with on premise SharePoint 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Attempting to connect a calendar or a document library fails when clicking the Connect to Outlook button on the ribbon. This only started occurring after the March patches went out onto our Windows 10 devices. These devices use Office Professional Plus 2016, and our standard browser is IE 11. Nothing appears in the ULS log when clicking the button, and no dialog boxes pop up. Also, no events appear in event viewer on either the SharePoint server or the client. Applying March 2019 patches to the server did not make a difference.

Has anyone else seen something similar? Is there a possible hotfix for this issue, or do we know which patch broke the functionality, so that is can be removed from the devices?

  • There are known issues with KB4489899. Try removing that first. Microsoft does not yet have a working solution for all scenarios that this patch introduced. This is a Windows client patch -- no need to remove it server-side.
