Windows 10 1803 Upgrade Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Hi, I'm encountering an issue when I try to download the Feature Update to Windows 10(Business Editions), version 1803, en-us.

On download status, whenever the file size reaches almost 4,000 MB it resets back to 0 MB

    Dowload Status

      Updates needing files:                  1

Downloaded 0.0 MB of 5,561.45 MB

    Please help.

    Thanks

  • Hello BJMP,

Where does your client get the update from? WSUS or Microsoft.

And it would be helpful if you could provide the windowsupdate.log.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Jia

  • Change your BITS Download to Foreground mode. Open an Admin PowerShell Prompt and copy/paste

    $conf=(get-wsusserver).GetConfiguration()
    $conf.BitsDownloadPriorityForeground=$true
    $conf.save()

  • Hello BJMP,

    Thanks for your feedback.

On the WSUS, check the update file status to see if we can find some useful information.

On the client, check the firewall and AV software setting.

    Run following script:

    net stop bits
    net stop wuauserv
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v AccountDomainSid /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v PingID /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientId /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientIDValidation /f
    rd /s /q "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution"
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
    PowerShell.exe (New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.AutoUpdate).DetectNow()

    Check if it works.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Jia

  • Hello BJMP,

    Thanks for your feedback.

    On the clients

    • Try temporarily turning off the firewall and AV software for a test.
    • Enable the GPO Turn off access to all Windows Update features, which is in the Administrative Templates\System\Internet communication Management\Internet Communication settings.

    On the WSUS server

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Jia

  • Hi Ray Jia,

I did a test on a new computer without AV before, but it also happens when i try to download update. It just resets back to 0%.

I get the error "The update is not applicable to your computer" when running the update on the link above (kb3159706) on WSUS Server.

    Thanks and regards,

    Bryan

  • Hello BJMP,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Could you provide the WSUS version or the OS version of WSUS server?

On the server, check the update file status, check if it is fully downloaded. Maybe you should re-download this update via following command:

    wsusutil reset

    Refer to this:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/dd939838(v=ws.10)

If error persist, check BITS record.

    Refer to this:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/cmpfekevin/2014/01/29/troubleshooting-bits-with-powershell/

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Jia
