Cannot extend Storage Space past 16TB while using ReFS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey All. Any ideas on why I am unable to extend my Storage Space past 16TB? I am using ReFS because I was under the impression that I needed it to go past 16TB which is the limit on NTFS without messing with cluster sizes. I am using 8TB drives with mirroring in Storage Spaces. Previously I had 4 drives so I was at the limit but recently added 2 more drives to bring the space up to ~22 but if I select anything above 16 it tells me "The Storage Space cannot be extended because the number of clusters will exceed the number of clusters supported by the file system." Any ideas or at this point should I just go with an ubuntu server and use mdadm?

  • This is a bug in the control panel.
Misunderstand 4KB cluster ReFS as 4KB cluster NTFS.

    Use Resize-VirtualDisk instead.
However, also need to manually extend the partition and filesystem. After successful Resize-VirtualDisk you should do from Win+X->Disk Management.
