Windows 2008 R2 Foundation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently running a LAN for 7 PCs utilising a 10 year old PC running XP Pro as a server. I am looking to upgrade the server to facilitate same level connectivity and run 32bit software on server requiring 2-3gb Ram.

I have been told that Windows 2008 R2 standard can be installed on a server as a 32bit OS but will cost 4 - 5 times that of Windows 2008 R2 Foundation for software and user licence.

Can Windows 2008 R2 Foundation also be installed as a 32bit OS? alternatively will it support 32bit software?

  • Hi,
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation are available only as a 64-bit operating system. However, you can install 32bit software on them if the application is compatible with 64bit of Windows operating system.
