Migration of complete Portal with areas, sites from SPS2003 to MOSS2007 RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I am going to migrate my SPS2003 portal to MOSS2007. we are going to try Database and gradual technique for the purpose. can anyone please let me know steps for both the processes. Also please sueest which process would be best suited.

    My Portal is using SSL with lots of customization. Also we using open network over it.

  • Hi,

    If you want to migrate from SPS2003 contents to an exited MOSS2007, you can use database migration. You should back up the content database of SPS2003 web application, and then attach to the content database to the MOSS web application, please do this via following steps:

    1.     Take the backup of the SPS2003 web application content database and restored it in your SQL server of MOSS.

    2.     Create a new web application in MOSS 2007 with a dummy database, and then delete the dummy database: Deletecontentdb

    3.     Open a command prompt and browsed to location c:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\bin.

    4.     Run the command stsadm -o addcontentdb -url <> -databasename <> to attach the main content database to the web application: Addcontentdb
