How incremental update works in Fast Search Server 2010 for SharePoint RRS feed

Answers

  • Hello Ankie,

When you add a new column, the modified date for the item row is not changed. If you for example add a new column with a calculated value, this value will not be indexed until you either edit the items in the list, or do a full crawl.

Incremental indexing in SharePoint works by looking at an internal change log in SharePoint, and this will be updated when the modified date changes for a list item, a library or a site.

When adding a new column you should either iterate the items with code to update the modified date, or schedule regular full crawls to pick up such changes.

  • If you did not want to do a full crawl on the entire content source, you could locate the list in the crawl log and mark it to be crawled in the next crawl.
