clusters with multiple network names RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have clusters that were built with multiple network names. According this this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919594 we are going to have problems. Anyone have any thoughts on this? This is not a small problem because from what I can tell this is causing some issues for us with SQL monitoring and BizTalk monitoring.

  • Found this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/959865. No mention of this in the guide though? Why not? I'll try to enable this and see if it helps.

  • KB Article 959865 should solve your problem with multiple network names in clusters.

As far as MP Guides are concerned, they are rarely updated for hotfixes post MP release. The download page may be updated if an SCOM/Product hotfix strongly affects the MP functionality.

Kevin Holman's blog provides a comprehensive list of hotfixes released so far at http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2009/01/27/which-hotfixes-should-i-apply.aspx.
Alternately, you can use a solution offered by KBAlertz.com to stay updated on hotfixes for your products.

  • As you and Tayyaba point out, the patch in KB959865 will enable support for multiple network names in OpsMgr 2007 SP1.  This functionality is already built into OpsMgr 2007 R2 so if you've got that deployed then you can simply follow the instructions in the KB to setup the necessary overrides.

As far as the MPs are concerned, this will help you with the SQL MP, but the BizTalk MP does not currently support monitoring of clustered resources.  They are working on a workaround statement for cluster support in their upcoming update to their MP.
