How to hide contacts in distribution group from GAL? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We're looking to create a distribution group that will send out texts to everybody at our office if the plant is going to closed for weather/emergency reasons. We don't want peoples' personal contact info (these aren't company phones) visible to everyone in the global address book, but we want to be able to quickly send out texts to everyone in the distribution group? Is there any way to hide individual contact information but still see the distribution group in the GAL? Or at least only allow certain users to see individual contact info in the distribution group?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

For Exchange 2003, we can achieve it by right-clicking the group, selecting Exchange Tasks and selecting Hide Membership in ADUC.

We cannot hide distribution group membership for Exchange 2007. Nevertheless, we can prevent users from expanding the group in Microsoft Outlook, and hide the group’s Member attribute so it’s not visible in the properties pages in Outlook or OWA. for more information about it, please refer to:
