Bitlocker - mainboard exchange won't require recovery password - why? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Disclaimer: I administer a bitlocked network since 12 years, so I know a thing or two about bitlocker. Please don't add comments if you are unfamiliar with fTPMs (firmware TPMs like Intel PTT).

A mainboard died. It was exchanged for the same board type (same bios and config, as well, also the same CPU-type).

The hard drive is encrypted with bitlocker (on Win10 Pro v1903) and I use an fTPM+PIN (Intel PTT). I had expected to need the recovery password after exchanging the mainboard, but I didn't need it. How come?
