IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL - Please Help RRS feed

  • Question

  • IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.
    BEGINNING DUMP OF PHYSICALMEMORY
    PHYSICAL MEMORY DUMP COMPLETE

This is the BSOD message I keep getting on my laptop. The laptop is a Gateway that has Vista Home Premium preinstalled on it. Everything has worked fine and continues to work fine at home. The problem comes when I take it to work with me. The computers at work are 3 PCs, 2 of which are running XP Pro SP3 and 1 running XP Pro SP2. They are all 3 connected using a WRT54G Router. When I turn on the laptop, it will run for about 5-10 min and then the message above comes on. When I prevent it from connecting to the wireless router at work, everything runs fine. Is the WRT54G causing this problem? I searched the internet for IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL and everything I find tells me to run a memory test. Why would it work at home but not at work if it was the memory?

    Please Help!

The IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error is very generic and can appear for just about any hardware device.

It definitely sounds like an incompatibility between the router and the installed wireless card in the laptop.

Try contacting Gateway support and check for any known issues for that hardware or possible driver updates.

  • Hi,

This is a kernel mode crash issue. Generally it occurs when a driver tried to access an address that is pageable (or that is completely invalid) while the IRQL was too high.

To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thank you for your time and cooperation!

I chatted with Gateway Tech Support numerous times and we tried several different fixes and they sent me to several different Microsoft support pages and nothing worked. One page they directed me to was: http://support.gateway.com/s/Checklists/BPC/ck20070928123.shtml

In the end they told me that nothing is wrong with the computer and that I need to replace or repair the Wireless Router. They said that they could not help me with any of that but to let them know if the computer has any other problems. Does this sound like the problem? Does anyone know of any issues with Windows Vista and a Linksys WRT54G?
