Missing Server Search Service: "The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service" RRS feed

    Background:

    We have a public facing site that's using MOSS 2007, and we receive a "The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service" when trying to perform a search.  It looks like the index files aren't getting propegated out to the DMZ where the server is, so we checked if Office SharePoint Server Search service was running on the server, and it does not appear to be present.

    Is there a way to get Office SharePoint Server Search service and Windows SharePoint Services Search installed without rebuilding the whole server?

    Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
