Very long install/update times RRS feed

  • Question

  • Everything seems to run fine except software installs and updates.  Whether it is installing a program from DVD (Crysis) or running an update or patch, the computer takes a unbelievable amount of time to complete the task.

Example: Time from double clicking the executable to the time to getting a progress bar: 5 minutes. Compare that to the time on XP: two to five seconds. My RAM and HDD both come up with WinSAT scores of 5.2, which is the lowest of anything else. No other programs are running and nothing except the windows defaults show running in the notification area.

I think it may have something to do with Defender or that task prioritization feature, but not sure.
