SDK Question--MonitoringAlertCriteria and the use of Description property RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi folks,

This has been also posted on SCC to cover all bases..

This is an R2 environment. I've got a few C# console apps that do housekeeping tasks, like closing all Informational alerts, etc. I need one to specifically close alerts using Description as part of the criteria. After a few hours of madness I have confirmed that when using Description in the criteria, it appears to only return alerts from Alert Monitors, not Alert Rules. I also confirmed using something else, i.e. Name as criteria I got the Alert Rule alerts I wanted. Combine them and nothing. I have a workaround using filtering logic lower in the code to extract just the alert I want, but it's very inefficient because it must work through a collection of alerts versus getting the one or two I want.

Before I check into a place with rubber walls, was wondering if anyone else has seen this, or if I am making a mistake?

    Thanks!--Drew

  • Thank you for replying. Someone over in SCC confirmed that using Description in the criteria produces unexpected results. The example in Technet probably needs to be reviewed. We are wondering if there has been a change in the SDK as a result of one of the CU's. For now I am using Context, but for best results I need Description.

    Thanks--

  • SDK fixes aren't typically documented, as far as I know.

    I'd consider recording a bug here: https://connect.microsoft.com/OpsMgrFeedback

Seems to be down right now, but I do believe that is the correct spot.
