Updating many a task Sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

    I have many task sequences in MDT 2013 Update 1 that install many applications (i guess like many other people).

    For EXAMPLE Firefox

    Now in the task sequences this is set to install say 40.03 but then when version 41.0 comes out, i have been adding this in as a new Application to the MDT workbench and then updating each Task sequence replacing the firefox 40.03 version with firefox 41.0.

    This takes some time, so my question is

    Is there a better/quicker way to update all my task sequences with a newer version?

    Thanks

  • Hello Markc0;

    each task sequence is stored in a ts.xml file located in your deployment share under "Task Sequence\control\TSNAME"

    you can write a script to update the application ID in all your ts.xml files to speed up the process

  • You could create a Firefox 1.0 install script (i.e. a batch file) and call that batch file.
    Each time a new version comes out you simply update the batch file (if required) and replace the application media in the deployment share.

    Thanks

  • that's a much better approach, that being said, I believe that Markc0 is in a situation where he has to change the application on all TS and don't want to do it manually. But he should definitely replace it by a more dynami approach.

    I also like to work with application bundles, without having to create a script, you create an application bundle and link it in your TS and when an application needs to be updated, you update the bundle and not the TS.
