Why did I need to enable O365 Unified Messaging on my account to allow invites to external Skype Contacts? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I'm a bit confused and wondered if someone could enlighten me? Our setup is

    1. Skype for Business On-Premise

    2. Office 365, Exchange Online

    3. I can access my Skype for Business internally and externally - All Good

The issue was when adding an external "normal/personal skype" contact to Skype for Business, it would allow me to search and find the user but wouldn't send the invite. Only when I enabled my account for Exchange Online Unified Messaging did an invite get sent?

Can someone explain why this is??

    Thanks

  • Hi Simon,

How many users had this issue, specific user or multiple users?

    What your consumer skype version?

In my opinion, the issue is not related exchange UM.

After the federation, please wait for a while, then check if the issue persists.

I have seen similar situation, the issue is caused by the skype version. It is no issue with skype 7.40.0.104 but has issue with 12.13.274.0, so please try to use another version of skype then test again.

If all users had the issue, may be something wrong with the federation.

Please check the federation steps, please refer to

  • Hi Alice,

Unfortunately I have to disagree. We tested on two separate clients/accounts with different skype versions and the result was the same. Once we enable UM and only then were we the invites getting sent.
